Over the years, we have seen an ever increasing number of people reaching out for advice on action cam alternatives to the ever popular GoPro. Today we will be expanding the content we have online for the subject by going over our Vivitar dvr914hd review in an attempt to go over the smart little action camera in detail to help any of our readers who are considering picking it up.
Being much cheaper than the GoPro camera, it should be no surprise that we always see people reaching out for advice on the camera as many people consider picking it up. That said, in all honesty, if you are looking to pick up a budget-friendly GoPro alternative then we would always recommend that you pick up the Akaso Brave 4 (Click here to check for product prices and availability) over the Vivitar dvr914hd.
In our opinion, it is a much better action camera that retails at the same price point as the Vivitar dvr914hd. It outperforms it in every way without having to inflate its price, this has made it a very popular camera with a massive customer base that has left a number of their own reviews (click here to read some of them) that you can read if you wish. Additionally, we also have a dedicated Akaso Brave 4 review online that goes into much more detail of the camera.

Now, moving on to the Vivitar dvr914hd, it is a solid little action camera with decent build quality, some great features, and some solid performance. That said, it does seem like some of the features the camera offers have been rushed into it rather than planned and designed to work as optimally as possible. That said, the Vivitar dvr914hd can produce some decent quality photographs and video footage for you as shown in the example footage below.
The photograph below shows all of the things that are included with the accessory kit as standard showing you exactly what you are getting and giving you an idea of the type of things you can use them for.
As you can see, a waterproof case is included increasing the functionality of the camera and number of situations that you are able to use it in. In fact, recording video or capturing photographs underwater is one of the Vivitar dvr914hd’s stronger points as it performs well in low light conditions where some other budget friendly, entry level action cameras can struggle.
The example footage in the video below offers an excellent example of how the Vivitar dvr914hd performs underwater including the sound that it is able to pick up for you.

Here is a full list of the resolutions that the Vivitar dvr914hd supports:-
- 1440p at 30fps.
- 1080p at 60fps.
- 720p at 120fps.
- 4K at 10fps.
If you are wanting to record video footage of you vlogging or doing any slower action sport such as underwater diving then we would recommend that you record with the 1080p at 60fps setting as it will offer you some very high-resolution video footage that is smooth and clean. If you are going to be doing any faster paced action sports like snowboarding or bike riding then we would recommend that you use the 720p at 120fps setting. This will keep your faster-paced video footage smooth while also helping to keep your video resolution high.
One thing that is very common with entry-level action cameras is that their user interface and control system is very hard to use. Thankfully, this is not the case with the Vivitar dvr914hd allowing you to quickly and easily switch your video recording resolution on the fly as required or tweak any other setting too. The LCD screen on the camera is responsive and the navigation menu on the camera is very easy to work your way around without you having to waste any time.
With its 16.1MP camera and its 170 degree viewing angle the camera can provide you with some nice high image quality photographs while you are out and about doing your favorite action sport. As we mentioned earlier, the menu system on the camera allows you to quickly and easily switch it from video to photo mode, capture your photograph and then switch it back to video mode within seconds.
As we mentioned at the start of the article, if you are looking to pick up a great little budget-friendly GoPro alternative then we would always recommend the Akaso Brave 4 (Click here to check for product prices and availability) over the Vivitar dvr914hd as it is a much better camera in our opinion. That said, if for whatever reason you have to go with the Vivitar option then it still beats many of the competing cameras at its price point while also offering some decent performance for you.
