As our regular readers know, we are trying to slowly work our way through as many of the popular tripods on the market as we can and today is no different. Welcome to our ultimate Sirui t1205x review that we hope our readers will find helpful if they are considering picking up the t1205x.
Although the t1205x does support all of the features that you would expect from a general purpose tripod, its smaller compressed size and lightweight also makes it an ideal choice for a travel tripod too. This coupled with its excellent performance and fair price tag have resulted in a number of photographers seriously considering the t1205x as a viable alternative to the more established Manfrotto tripod range.
Although its core customer base is currently pretty small, some photographers and videographers who are using the t1205x as their go-to tripod of choice have taken to publishing their own independent reviews (click here to read some of them) of their experiences with the tripod.
User Control System
As you would expect from its price point in the market, the Sirui t1205x Tripod is a solid choice and its user control system is easy to use while also providing some excellent image stabilization with minimal effort required on your part. Sirui has essentially taken the systems that have been proven time and time again over the years by tripods from all brands and integrated them into their own range.
The photograph to the left shows the twist lock leg lock system that is used on the t1205x. The majority of photographers and videographers will be familiar with the system due to it being in such wide usage and be able to set the tripod up within seconds.
We know that many people within the community prefer the flip lock system over the twist lock one but in this day and age, there is very little between the two. Both offer some excellent stability for your rig as well and ensuring that your camera is safe and secure once the legs are lost in place.
Personally, we prefer the twist lock system as it is quicker and if you are planning on using the t1205x as a travel style tripod then chances are you may have to build and de-build the tripod multiple times per day as you get to different locations. Although the twist lock system probably only saves you less than a minute or two each time, it can quickly add up over the course of a trip.
Unlike some of the other Sirui tripods on the market right now, the t1205x comes with a decent ball head included as standard as shown in the image to the right. The included ball head is a solid choice and is excellent in all fairness with a solid amount of utility in most niches.
That said though if you expect to have to capture any panoramic photographs or record any kind of smooth slow panning footage using the t1205x then you may want to look into picking up a cheap Pan Handle head (Click here to check for product prices and availability) too. This will overcome the biggest weakness of the t1205x without adding much to the price tag of the tripod while enabling you to capture some excellent panoramic photos and panning footage.
Performance And Functionality
As we mentioned earlier in the article, one of the best things about the t1205x is that it offers some excellent performance allowing it to rival some of the higher price point tripods on the market right now while standing out against its direct competition. We have made a short list below going over the key features of the Sirui t1205x Tripod as its easier than going over each one and how it can benefit you:-
- Carbon Fiber Body To Offer Maximum Robustness While Also Being Lightweight.
- Seamless Quick Release Plate Integration.
- Independently Locked Silicon Twist Locks.
- Short Center Column For Extremely Low Angles.
- 22 Pound Maximum Load Capacity.
- 51 Inch Maximum Height.
- Rubber Feet To Help Increase Image Stabilization.
As you can see, the Sirui t1205x Tripod has all the key features that you would expect from a tripod at this price point in the market. This allows you to easily use it as your go-to tripod of choice and get the most out of it no matter the situation. With the various locking systems on the tripod, you can rest assured that your camera rig is safe no matter what.
Additionally, the counterweight hook on the base of the center column on the tripod is excellent. You can easily load it up with weight to help increase the stabilization of your tripod when using it outdoors in windy conditions. Unlike some competing tripods on the market, the counterweight hook is solid and does not feel like it may just fall out of the tripod if you put weight on it.
As the Sirui T-1205X is a high-quality carbon fiber tripod we really can’t fault its build quality and Sirui have done an excellent job of putting the tripod together. The materials used in the tripod are second to none keeping it both lightweight as well as robust making it ideal for use as a travel tripod.
The 5-section design of the tripod is excellent and allows you to adapt it to any situation that you may encounter. The small but extendable center column also adds to the number of situations that you are able to use the tripod further increasing what you can get done with the Sirui T-1205X. The leg sections are really well put together ensuring that the weight of your camera rig is equally spread out over the full capacity of the tripod too.
All in all, we really can’t find fault with the build quality or design of the Sirui T-1205X tripod and really do think that Sirui has smashed it out the park and have made an excellent product.
That concludes our Sirui t1205x review and as we mentioned earlier in the article, the only complaint is that the tripod comes with a ball head but as we said, you can pick up a cheap panhandle (Click here to check for product prices and availability) to add any panning functionality that you require. We feel that it will make an excellent addition to your camera accessories and provide all the image stabilization that you could ever require.
