The Ultimate Sirui T025X Review!

After previously covering a bunch of different tripods from a range of brands over the last six months or so, we have noticed people reaching out for specific advice on the Sirui tripod range. Due to this, we have decided to take the time to type up and publish our dedicated Sirui T025X review.

Although the Sirui T025X is not the most popular travel tripod on the market right now, it can definitely hold its own within the market and it is slowly growing its core customer base as the months go by. Considering it is a carbon fiber tripod it has a very budget-friendly price tag that we expect to help it grow over the coming months.

The high build quality, great performance, extensive feature list, and low price tag all bode well for the Sirui T025X growing almost exponentially when the community catch on to it just like many of the Zomei tripods did a few years back. Although its current customer base is small, some of them have chosen to publish their own reviews of the Sirui T025X (click here to read some of them) online that can offer a great third-party insight into how the tripod performs over extended periods of time when used as your go-to tripod of choice.

User Control System

Thankfully, the vast majority of modern tripods on the market these days have very simple systems to build and debuild the tripods as required while out and about on a photography gig. The Sirui T025X is no different and it is extremely easy for you to set up, mount your camera, and get on with your task in hand without having to waste time and effort messing around.

The leg sections are locked in places by using the popular twist lock system shown in the image to the left. Now, we are fully aware that some photographers and videographers prefer the flip lock leg lock system but in this day and age, both systems offer almost identical benefits in reality with there being very little difference between them.

Personally, we actually prefer the twist lock system as we find that it is quicker when out and about and as the saying goes, time is money. Simply have the leg set up as shown in the image to the left, put your hand over the full set of twist locks and unlock them all at the same time with one single twist. After your shoot, do the same process but in reverse to lock the legs down. We know it’s not much but it is much quicker and easier than having to manually unlock each flip lock each time you have to set your tripod system up.

The leg attachment to the center column is reinforced and also has its own ratchet lock as shown in the image to the right. This Sirui T025X has been set up and will provide solid image stabilization for your camera rig offering excellent image quality.

The system is very quick and easy to use further reducing the potential for having to waste your, your models or your clients time while out and about capturing photographs or video footage. Additionally, unlike some competing tripods on the market, we were unable to find a single report of the ratchet system failing causing the camera rig to fall to earth risking potential damage so the T025X scores additional points for this too.

As this is a budget-friendly travel tripod system, it comes with a regular ball head as standard as shown in the image to the left. This is standard in the entry-level tripod range as it is the cheapest tripod head available on the market and also meets the vast majority of peoples requirements.

One thing that we would like to point out is that the ball head system is not ideal if you are planning on recording any slow pan footage of epic landscape views or capturing any panoramic photographs. It is too glittery and your image quality will suffer. That said, you can pick up a cheap panhandle tripod head (Click here to check for product prices and availability) that will mount to the tripods mounting thread and overcome this shortfall while still keeping the price of the tripod setup low.

Performance And Functionality

As we touched on at the start of the article, the Sirui T025X packs an absolute ton of functionality as well as some excellent performance and we feel that it’s current customer base massively under-represents the potential of the tripod. Here are some of the key features of the T025X that we feel help it perform so well when used as your go-to travel tripod:-

  • 1.8lb Tripod Weight
  • 12.2 Inch Folded Height
  • 51.2 Inch Extended Height
  • 13.2lb Load Capacity
  • 180° Leg Adjustment
  • Included Bubble Level
  • Two Stage Center Column
  • Counterweight Hook

As you would expect for a travel tripod, its folded height and weight are very small compared to a general purpose tripod while also beating out some of the competing travel tripods on the market right now too. The 51.2 maximum extended tripod height should be enough for the vast majority of our readers to ensure that they can use the Sirui T025X as their go-to tripod of choice.

The 13.2lb load capacity also ensures that the tripod is able to support and provide its excellent image stabilization for the vast majority of popular camera rigs used too. This included the ability to have some of the heavier telephoto zoom lenses mounted on your camera body while using the T025X.

We also like the location of the bubble level on the tripod too. It is mounted on the center column rather than on the tripod head so you are guaranteed to be able to see it with your camera rig mounted no matter how big it is. This allows you to ensure that your tripod is level no matter the situation and help improve your image quality during your photograph or videography session.

The quick release plate system used on the Sirui T025X is also very smooth and surprisingly high quality. It allows you to quickly and easily mount or unmount your camera rig from the tripod as needed without having to waste your time and effort. If you are planning to use multiple cameras with your T025X then additional quick release plates are available (Click here to check for product prices and availability) at a low price. This ensures that you are able to attach one quick release plate to each of your cameras to quickly hot swap between them.

Being a travel tripod, there is a good chance that you will have to get on with your session once on location no matter the conditions. Thankfully, the Sirui T025X has an excellent counterweight system as shown in the image to the left.

Rather than use one of those annoying hooks that are tiny like completing tripod brands, Sirui has opted to use a carabiner making it very easy for you to attach your backpack or other large objects as required.

This helps you use anything you have to hand as a counterweight for the tripod in windy conditions ensuring that it stays upright and keeps your camera rig safe and sound. We have lost count of the number of times we have seen photographers or videographers mention that they hate the tiny counterweight hooks on other tripods. Thankfully, Sirui has thought outside the box and avoided this problem all together.

Build Quality

The build quality of the Sirui T025X is also excellent and due to being a carbon fiber tripod it is very lightweight as well as very robust. This is an excellent combination for a travel tripod as it ensures that you are able to add it to your baggage allowance if you have to fly to your location without adding too much weight. Additionally, the robustness of the tripod ensures it is able to take any punishment that may come its way during transit without taking damage too.

The center column on the tripod is fully extendable too allowing you to increase the height even further than simply extending the legs of the tripod would normally allow. The build quality and design of the center column is flawless in this regard as extending it does not sacrifice the image stabilization of the tripod in any way.

The ball head on the tripod is also solid and easy to use. Its mounting thread is made from metal ensuring a quick and easy fit for your camera with minimal risk of cross threading during use. All in all, the Sirui T025X is a solid little tripod that has an excellent build quality.

Our Verdict

That brings us to the end of our Sirui t025x review, although it may seem like we are being biased towards the tripod, we just couldn’t find fault with it, especially when you take into account how cheap it is. It is easily able to compete with higher price point tripods without issue and in all honesty, we are shocked at how underrated it is.

We feel that it will make an excellent addition to your camera accessories helping to provide your camera rig with some excellent image stabilization no matter the situation. There is no doubt in our mind that picking the tripod up will help to improve your digital photography or videography and the best part is, the tripod doesn’t break the bank!
