Today we are going to be adding to our collection of tripod reviews that we have been publishing over the last few months. Today it is the turn of our ultimate Sirui T005X review that we have seen a number of people request over the last few weeks.
Billed as an entry level, budget friendly, travel tripod that packs a ton of functionality while offering great performance for its price tag we are happy to say it definitely fits the bill. This has lead to a steadily increasing number of photographers choosing the T005X as their go-to tripod of choice with many of them posting independent reviews online (click here to read some of them) covering their experiences with when using it.
User Control System
Being a budget-friendly tripod, Sirui has kept the systems on the tripod as basic as possible to help reduce costs but thankfully, this has not reduced the level of quality of the tripod at all. As you can see in the photograph above, the T005X uses a standard ball head with a high-quality, easy to use quick release plate.
Unlike some of the other entry level tripod systems, the T005X does not use some random proprietary quick release plate making it a nightmare to source spares. The Sirui TY-C10 (Click here to check for product prices and availability) is cheap and easy to source ensuring that you are able to pick up spare quick release plates for your other cameras. This allows you to easily hot swap between the camera that you have mounted on your tripod without wasting time.
Although the ball head used on the T005X is great, we also think that it is the main weakness for the tripod, especially if you plan to do any kind of panoramic photography or slow panning video footage as a ball head will provide jump footage. Thankfully, this can easily be overcome if you are planning to do either of these by picking up a cheap panhandle tripod head (Click here to check for product prices and availability) that will provide smooth panning.
Moving down the tripod we come to the next main control system, the ratchet leg lock system shown in the photograph to the left. Sirui has essentially used the same design as many other tripod brands for the T005X that securely locks them in place ensuring that your camera rig is safe and secure.
Once set up, the ratchet locks in place keeping the leg in place even if you accidentally go over the tripods maximum load capacity. If you have to use your tripod on slippery or wet surfaces the ratchet further increase the image stabilization and safety that the tripod can provide your camera rig.
The final main interface of the tripod is the twist lock system used to lock each of the leg sections in place as shown in the photograph to the right. We know some photographers and videographers prefer the flip lock leg lock system but we tend to prefer the twist lock system as it tends to be quicker overall.
Additionally, in this day and age, there is very little difference in the stability provided by a flip lock or a twist lock system. The rubber feet at the base of each leg also help the tripod grip the surface you are using it on ensuring that your camera rig is safe no matter where you are using it.
Performance And Functionality
As we have covered above, the various control systems on the Sirui T005X help to provide some of the best image stabilization for a standard ball head travel tripod available on the market right now. In addition to this, the T005X also has a number of features that help it access as a travel tripod as covered in the list below:-
- Maximum Upper Load Capacity Of 8.8 Pounds
- Max Height Of 54 Inches
- Min Folded Length 12.2 Inches Making It Around 20% Smaller Than Competing Tripods
- Low Weight Of Only 2.3 Pounds
- Fully Removable Center Column So You Can Cover Low Angles
This allows the Sirui T005X to be a quick and easy addition to your camera accessories and travel photography kit ensuring that it will provide you with some great image stabilization anywhere you need to go. As conditions for travel photography can be unpredictable, we would also like to mention the counterweight hook at the base of the center column as shown in the image to the left.
As you can see, the T005X uses the caribbeana counterweight hook system rather than some random flimsy plastic hook that can be common amongst entry-level tripods. This ensures that you are able to quickly and easily add a counterweight to your tripod if you are capturing photographs out in windy conditions.
The large size of the caribbeana makes it very easy to add pretty much anything that you can think of like a backpack for example that can be a total nightmare to attach if you use the plastic counterweight system. All in all, the T005X offers some of the best performance available for its price point in the market and we feel that it will only become more popular as the months go by and its reputation within the community increases.
When it comes to the build quality of the T005X, Sirui has done an excellent job. Ensuring that they have produced an excellent quality aluminum tripod allows them to ensure that their product is lightweight and robust while helping to keep its price tag as low as possible. This allows it to rival some of the higher price point carbon fiber tripods on the market without the inflated price tags.
That brings us to the end of our Sirui T005X review and as you can probably tell, we really think that it is an excellent lightweight travel tripod. It offers some great image stabilization for your camera rig and will ensure an excellent image quality for your photographs and video footage. It lower price tag and smaller size helps it stand out against the compeating tripods pushing the T005X to the front of the pack when looking to pickup a new tripod for your camera accessories.
The video below offers an additional third-party, independent review for the Sirui T005X to offer our readers an independent opinion of the product.
