Welcome to our ultimate Neewer VG-C2EM review that we have decided to publish after decided to start a series of posts reviewing the various battery grips on the market right now. We have seen more and more people choose to go with third-party battery grips rather than the official one as they often provide similar levels of performance with a price tag as much as 70 percent less than the official version.
Thankfully, the Neewer VG-C2EM meets these requirements and provides you with some excellent performance with a much lower price tag than the official Sony VGC2EM Grip (Click here to check for product prices and availability). User Interface And Control System
As you would imagine, the Neewer VG-C2EM is simple and very easy to use allowing you to quickly and easily mount your Sony camera body to the battery grip with ease. The process really couldn’t be simpler and even if this is the first battery grip that you have ever used, we are confident you will be able to use it right out the box without having any problems.
The image above shows the 1/4 inch mounting screw to the bottom right of the image and the main electrode block to the left of the screen. To mount the battery grip to your Sony camera body you simply line both the mounting screw and the electrode block up with the relevant parts of your camera body and then start to insert the electrode block until the mounting screw comes into contact with the mounting thread on your camera body.
The image above shows the locking wheel for the mounting thread and you simply turn it to rotate the mounting screw on the battery grip to screw it into the thread housing on your camera body. Once the grip is flush with your camera body, it has been successfully mounted. The Neewer VG-C2EM uses the same system as pretty much every other battery grip on the market right now so if you have used any other battery grips, you will be able to quickly and easily get this one working.
The image above shows the NP-FW50 battery housing on the grip so once mounted simply place the battery in the housing and you are good to go.

Performance And Functionality
The battery life of your camera when using the NP-FW50 battery will depend on the quality of the battery you house within it rather than the actual grip itself. We know that there are some third-party NP-FW50 batteries on the market that are low quality and offer poor battery life so for the best results we would always recommend that you use the best battery possible.
The Neewer VG-C2EM has a vertical shutter release button allowing you to snap away while the battery grip is mounted to your camera body without issue. Additionally, the battery grip also has its own mounting thread on its base so you are still able to quickly and easily mount your camera rig on a tripod once you have the battery grip mounted to it without issue.

Build Quality And Design
The build quality of the NP-FW50 battery is also solid in all fairness to it and is better than many of the competing third-party battery grips on the market right now for the Sony A7 II, A7S II, and A7R II camera bodies. The image above shows you the shutter release button enlarged in the top left of the image whereas it shows you the grips mounting thread for tripods enlarged in the top right of the image.
As you can see, the mounting thread for your tripods on the grip has metal threads to ensure that it will not cross-thread with the mounting screw on your tripod and cause you problems. This ensures that you will always be able to quickly and easily mount or unmount the grip from your tripod with ease without it getting stuck due to cross threading.

It houses the NP-FW50 battery without issue and also has some nice additional functionality on the battery grip that Neewer never had to add at this point in the market.
