After many popular YouTubers helped the Joby Gorillapod range explode in popularity a few years back the small and flexible tripod has only gone from strength to strength. After seeing a steadily increasing number of people reaching out for advice on the various Joby tripods we have decided to try and review each of them over the coming months.
We are hoping to help as many of our readers as possible with our ultimate Joby Gorillapod 3k review as we are confident plenty of people are considering picking one up. Being one of the higher price point Gorillapods currently available, it is no surprise that the build quality, performance, image stabilization, and functionality of the 3K is excellent.
This has all led to large amounts of the community taking to the tripod and putting it to use in a number of situations. Many of these people have chosen to take the time to publish their own independent reviews online (click here to read some of them) that you can read if you like. These reviews offer an external insight into the performance of the 3K published by people who use it as one of their main tripods of choice over extended periods of time.
User Interface And Control System
The magnetic feet on the tripod also allow you to attach the tripod to many horizontal flat metal surfaces that other tripods simply won’t attach to. Just make sure that your camera rig of choice is within the 3k’s upper load capacity of 6.6 pounds to ensure it will remain in place.
Although the ball head on the 3k that is shown in the image to the left is pretty basic, it definitely gets the job done and for this price point in the market, outperforms the majority of the competition. The bubble level on the tripod head allows you to further warp the legs of the tripod when mounted to level out your camera to improve your video and image quality.
All in all, Joby have done a great of taking all the lessons they have identified from their previous generations of Gorillapods over the years and built on them to improve the 3k as much as possible. This all makes it an excellent addition to anyone’s collection of camera equipment, especially if you travel a lot or are looking to pick up a nice, easy to use, lightweight tripod for vlogging.
Performance And Functionality
- 6.6-pound maximum payload.
- Easy to read bubble level on the ball head.
- High-quality wrappable legs.
- Fully functioning 360° panning bed.
- 90° tilt functionality.
- Small 2.5 x 12 x 2.5-inch size and 0.86-pound product weight.
This allows you to wrap your Gorillapod around a large number of random objects that you can encounter on your adventures and use it as a source of image stabilization that other tripods would not be able to utilize. The photograph below serves as an example of how you are able to do this with a tree branch to get yourself a solid grip.
Once mounted, you can tilt or pan the ball head and use the bubble level to get the optimal angle for your camera before starting to capture your video footage or capture photographs. This makes it excellent for YouTube vlogging or capturing selfies for Instagram that have a unique angle and really stand out on social media.
The photograph above shows the naturally flexible nature of the tripod and how its excellent build quality helps you warp the shape of the legs in any way you see fit to meet your requirements. With the majority of the Gorillapod being made from high-quality Japanese ABS plastic or high-quality German TPE plastics, you can rest assured that the joints on the product are firm and stable and easily able to keep your camera rig safe.
The quick release plate system on the Gorillapod shown in the image to the right is smooth, seemless, and very easy to use. This allows you to quickly and easily mount and unmount your camera as required from the Gorillapod when needed without issue.
Unlike some of the compeating products on the market right now, Joby have ensured that spare quick release plates (Click here to check for product prices and availability) for the 3K are cheap and readily available. This allows you to pickup spares if needed as well as get as many as you require to ensure that all of your cameras can be attached to a quick release plate so you can hot swap between the camera that you have mounted to the 3K Gorillapod.
That concludes our Joby Gorillapod 3k review and we hope that you have found it helpful. All in all, it will make an excellent addition to your collection of camera accessories and provide you with great image stabilization in almost any situation that you may find yourself in. With the older generations of Gorillapods having such a great reputation within the community anyway, it is no surprise that the 3K is even better as Joby have improved on the design and made their system even better over the years.
The video below offers an additional third-party, independent review for the 3K Joby Gorillapod to offer our readers an independent opinion of the product.
