In this article, we are going to be going over our gobe filters review and sharing our opinion on the company and their current range of lens filters. Being the relative newcomer to the market, Gobe has actually managed to get off to a surprisingly good start earning a good reputation within the photography community quickly with a steadily increasing customer base.
We feel that this is partly due to the good quality of their filters, the range of filters that they have available as well as their quality v price trade off keeping their prices low. Although not all cheap filters on the market are good quality, seeing the Gobe logo on a filter is quickly becoming associated with a cheap filter that performs very well.
Additionally, for the environmentally minded photographers out there, Gobe dedicate a percentage of their profits to planting trees at various locations around the world. At the time of writing, photographers purchasing Gobe lens filters have helped the company plant a total of 763,191 trees!

How To Tell The Difference In Quality Between Gobe Filters
With all most all of their filter types, Gobe offers three different ranges of the product. An entry-level version of the filter, a mid-level version of the filter, and a pro-level version of the filter. Initially, we were unable to tell the difference when the filters are packaged and you are just looking at the box but there is a quick and easy way to tell the filter level by just looking at the box shown in the image below.
Each Gobe filter has a little sticky label at the bottom right of the front of the box. Each level of filter is awarded a different number of mountains. The low-level filters have one mountain, the mid-level filters have two, and the pro-level filters have three.
The main differences between the filter levels are that the low and mid-level filters are made using HD Japan Optics Glass whereas the pro-level filter is made using German SCHOTT Glass. The mid and pro-level filters also have Gobes 16-layer multi-coated system to better improve the performance of the filter too.

The frame of the filters is made from a tough magnalium frame too ensure that the filter is also durable.
The 16-layer multi-coated system on the mid and pro-level lens filters make them ideal for filtering our polarized light while offering you the capability to reduce any reflections dramatically while enhancing the colors of your photograph and increasing contrast.
Although there are better Cpl filters out there at higher price points and cheaper Cpl filters out there with worse performance, we feel that Gobe has found their niche in the market by covering the middle of the road option.

Gobe Filter Kit Review

- 37 mm
- 43 mm
- 49 mm
- 52 mm

If you only need the UV and Cpl filter then the two-piece Gobe filter kit (Click here to check for product prices and availability) is always an option too. Just keep in mind, it is new to the market with new sizes being of the two-piece it being released at regular intervals.
The easy to store system of the filters make it very easy to the kit in your photography bag without the need to change things around and the included bag helps to offer a little additional protection. The lightweight of the filters also means that you probably won’t even notice the addition to your photography bag either.
If you have a use for either the ten-piece or two-piece lens kits then it could be worth picking them up as it usually works out to be a fair bit cheaper getting a kit rather then purchasing each lens individually.

The Quality Vs Price Balance
As we have mentioned throughout the article a few times now, we feel that Gobe has really hit the nail on the head when it comes to finding their niche within the lens filter market. None of the more established brands seemed bothered about filling the more affordable price points with quality filters but Gobe saw the gap in the market and have exploited it to its fullest.
The general opinion within the photography community seems to be that they have managed to get the quality to price ratio of their filters perfect and we feel this is one of the main reasons for their quick success. Their steadily increasing user base of photographers are slowly managing to change the “get what you pay for” mentality towards the lower priced filters and turning more and more people onto the Gobe range.
What’s more is they seem to have big plans for the lens filter market with new products and new filter kits being released at regular intervals. We really think that the Gobe range is one to watch as we expect very big things from them.
Getting Additional Opinions
We fully understand people who want to research any potential product purchase as much as possible before actually ordering the filter. There are an ever increasing number of reviews online that have been left by third-party, independent photographers who have chosen to use products from the Gobe filter range.
Gobe is also establishing a list of their own Ambassadors who have sizable social media followings and good reputations within the photography community. No only do they put their name to the Gobe brand but they also showcase the potential of the lens filters on their social media channels. For example, Emilie Ristevski is one of Gobes current ambassadors and she shows her work often using Gobe filters on her Instagram channel.
Giving Back To Nature
As we mentioned at the very start of the article, Gobe are part of the one percent for the planet organization and put a percentage of their profits into planting trees. At the time of writing, they have managed to plant a total of 763,191 trees with the majority being in Madagascar, Nepal, and Haiti.
Their points based system means that every filter that you purchase from Gobe will help plant an additional five trees at these locations. If saving the world appeals to you but you don’t want to or can’t afford to pick up a Gobe filter right now, they offer a number of freeways that you are able to help their brand in return for them planting between one and five trees in your name for your efforts.
