Gobe use their peak system as shown in the image above to display the quality of the lens that you are purchasing. One peak is their cheapest filter, two peaks are their middle of the range price point filters with three peaks being their premium filters. In reality, there is little to no difference between the One peak and Two peak products so we will be grouping them together for our Gobe cpl filter review while covering their three peak filters separately.

Before we get into this review though, we would like to quickly point out that we also have a review of the full Gobe range of lens filter review that we published a few months back that you may find helpful.

Gobes One And Two Peak Cpl Filters

First up we will be taking a look at the One and Two peak Gobe Polarizing filters (Click here to check for product prices and availability). Although there are a few dollars between the two when it comes to their price tags, their price and quality is very similar with the two peak filters only having a small number of slight improvements over the one peak filters.

The glass used for the filter element in this range is high-quality Japanese optical glass that has been specifically designed to cause almost zero light distortion while also providing a polarization rate of around 99.9%. This offers you a budget-friendly way to add a Cpl filter to your lens that provides some excellent anti-reflection functionality that is ideal if you are taking photographs with bodies of water in them that may reflect additional light into your lens.

At the time of writing, the Gobe circular polarizers are available in the following lens filter thread sizes and we do not expect any additional sizes to be added at this stage. As you can see, they offer one of the largest varieties of sizes on the market:-

  • 37mm
  • 40.5mm
  • 43mm
  • 46mm
  • 49mm
  • 52mm
  • 55mm
  • 58mm
  • 62mm
  • 67mm
  • 72mm
  • 77mm
  • 82mm
  • 86mm
  • 95mm

The two peak Cpl filters take advantage of Gobes multi-coating technology and have a total of sixteen layers applied to them during the manufacturing process. These coats offer some of the best flare reduction currently available on the market, especially at this low price point. The coating technology also helps to increase the robustness of your filter element glass while also offering it some protection and deflection for dust or water particles that may accidentally blow onto your filter while out on location for your photography session.

The frames of the filters have a very slim profile to help avoid vignetting when you use the filters on a wide angle lens while also helping to reduce the size and weight of the filter to make it easier to store in your photography bag. The metal frame is made from high-quality Magnalium to help keep the filter solid and robust while also keeping the weight of the filter as low as possible. The unique design of the filters frame also ensures that you are able to quickly and easily rotate it when required to adjust your polarisation levels on the fly without the need to waste time.

We would also like to mention that Gobe run a charity based program where they will play five trees for each polarizing filter that is sold. Although not a key point when looking for your next Cpl filter, it is nice to know that you are also helping the world when making a purchase.

Gobes Three Peak Cpl Filters

Next up we will be going over the Gobe three peak circular polarizer filter (Click here to check for product prices and availability) that have proven very popular within both the photography and videography communities. Since their release onto the market, they have managed to quickly earn an excellent reputation within the community due to their excellent quality and budget-friendly price tag.

The main difference between the three peak Gobe filters and the one or two peak ones is that the three peaks have a filter element made out of industry-leading Schott B270 glass made in Germany. This further reduced the polarization rate of the filter as well as improving the light distortion capabilities of the filter.

If you are a professional level photographer or have high aspirations for your photos then this is the CPL filter for you but we feel that the one or two peak filters covered above would be fine for a large number of our readers as their performance is still excellent.

Again, the three peak version of the filters have been treat with Gobes sixteen layer coating technology to further improve both the performance and robustness of the filter when in use. The key benefit of this coating technology is its ability to reduce the amount of lens flare that you may get in high light conditions that is particularly useful when capturing photographs on location outdoors.

The frame of the three peak lenses is exactly the same as the frame on the one and two peak lenses coming with the exact same benefits as we mentioned above in the article. At the time of writing the three peak filters are available in the following range of sizes:-

  • 37mm
  • 40.5mm
  • 43mm
  • 46mm
  • 49mm
  • 52mm
  • 55mm
  • 58mm
  • 62mm
  • 67mm
  • 72mm
  • 77mm
  • 82mm
  • 86mm
  • 95mm

The three peak lens range also offers excellent color and contrast enhancement for your photographs while also being able to maintain your photographs overall color balance. This helps to really capture the beauty of any epic landscape vistas that you may want to capture in all of their glory.
