So we covered a few products from the Dolica range on our blog a few months back now but we have noticed a sudden increase in their popularity over the last few weeks with more and more people reaching out for advice on their tripods. Due to this, we have decided to publish our Dolica GX600B200 review as it seems to be the main tripod people are reaching out about.
With its excellent performance, great build quality, solid image stabilization, and massive customer base it is no surprise that it has managed to earn the excellent reputation that it enjoys today. On top of this, after a few YouTubers and social media influencers in the photography and videography niches recommended the Dolica GX600B200 as their number one entry-level tripod, popularity and interest in it have spiked.
Although the price tag of the Dolica GX600B200 is on the higher end of the entry-level tripod price range, the performance and build quality it offers are definatley worth the price tag. In our opinion, the tripod can actually compete with many of the intermediate tripods without issue while also being much cheaper.

User Interface And Control System
With the Dolica GX600B200 retailing at around the $50 price mark, there is a good chance that many of the people who are considering adding this to their collection of camera accessories are first-time tripod buyers just starting out on their photography or videography journey. Thankfully, Dolica has done a great job of keeping the various control systems on the GX600B200 as straight forward and easy to use as possible.
If this is your first ever tripod then we have no doubt that you will be able to quickly pick it up and get it working without having any dramas at all. On the flip side of this though, if you are a more experienced photographer then we have no doubt at all that you will be able to take advantage of this budget-friendly tripod and improve your image quality due to the image stabilization that it provides.
The image above shows the press and release leg angle selectors on the Dolica GX600B200. In our opinion, they are definatley the easier angle selectors to use and they also offer a nice firm lock when released after modifying the angle of your tripods leg. The firm locking mechanism also gives you confidence in the tripod that its legs will not give way once you mount your camera rig and give you peace of mind that your camera rig is safe and secure.
Depending on what you are planning to use the Dolica GX600B200 for, you can get creative with the angles of the legs like in the photograph above. A solid and easy to use set of leg angle adjusters like the ones on the GX600B200 can allow you to provide some much-needed image stabilization to your camera rig where other entry-level tripods may struggle.
Sticking with the legs on the GX600B200, the image above shows the leg lock system used on the tripod and just like many other entry-level tripods on the market right now, Dolica has opted to go with the flip lock leg lock system. Although personally, we actually prefer the twist lock system due to its speed and ease of use, the flip lock system like the one used on this tripod can be better if you are new to photography or videography.
As the flip lock leg lock system requires you to physically put the flip in place to activate the leg lock, people new to using tripods seem to have more confidence that the lock is active and will support the weight of their camera before mounting it. Additionally, especially in the entry-level market, flip locks tend to age much better than twist locks that end up wearing out on budget friendly tripods.
The final user interface element that we want to touch on for the Dolica GX600B200 is the counterweight hook as shown in the image above. We are sick of saying this but in our opinion, a counterweight hook is essential on any tripod that you plan to be used outside as it helps counter any windy conditions you may find yourself in.
Due to the entry-level price tag on the GX600B200, the counterweight hook is plastic rather than metal and it is also fitted rather than removable but at least the tripod has one! So many entry-level tripods skip this feature. Basically, when you are out and about, you can mount additional weight to the tripods counterweight hook to help prevent the wind blowing it over any potentially damaging your camera or lens.

Performance And Functionality
As we mentioned at the start of the article, the Dolica GX600B200 is one of the top entry-level tripods on the market at the time of writing due to the excellent level of performance that it offers you. We have made the short bullet point list below covering some of the key features that the GX600B200 that we feel help it stay ahead of the pack:-
- Maximum usable height – 60 inches
- Minimum usable height – 21.5 inches
- Folded height – 23 inches
- Tripod net weight: 2.5 pounds
- Maximum load capacity weight – 15 pounds
- Leg sections – 4
As we also mentioned at the start of the article, we feel that the 60-inch maximum usable height, as well as the 15-pound payload capacity on the GX600B200, help it compete with some of the intermediate level tripods without having their price tag. For a tripod around the $50 mark, the Dolica GX600B200 can support a pretty heavy camera rig without issue.
The four-leg sections on the tripod also ensure that it has a decent maximum usable height while also having a nice and small folder height too. This can make it an ideal entry-level travel tripod depending on what you are planning on doing.
This allows you to quickly and easily switch between your cameras that are mounted on the tripod allowing you to mix up the type of photograph or video footage that you capture. The quick-release plate is also smooth allowing you to easily unmount your camera when needed if for whatever reason you have to switch over to handheld photography.

Build Quality And Design
The build quality of the Dolica GX600B200 is excellent considering its low price tag and we feel that Dolica really have done an excellent job in all fairness to them. The majority of the tripod body is made from a lightweight but robust aluminum alloy to help ensure the tripod will last while keeping the costs low as carbon fiber is expensive and would force the price tag up.
The handgrips are comfortable to hold and offer you somewhere to hold on to on the tripod when in use without having to hold on to the cold metal in cold conditions too. As we mentioned earlier, the flip lock leg locks on the tripod have been designed well and are both easy to use and very secure once locked too.
When it comes to the build quality of the GX600B200, we really can’t fault Dolica and feel that they have totally smashed it out of the park. When you compare the build quality of the GX600B200 to some of the other competing entry-level tripods on the market right now, it clearly stands ahead of them without there really being much of a challenge.
