In this article, we will be taking a look at what we feel is by far the best UV filter for Nikon d3300 use on the market right now! One thing that we would like to point out is that the filter thread size should be chosen to fit the thread size of your camera lens, not any measurement on your d3300. You can usually find your lens thread size on your lens hood, your lens manual, or printed around the edge of your lens.
These days, the majority of photographers and videographers choose to use a UV filter to help protect the front element of their lens rather than to prevent UV light from entering their lens and getting to their sensor. We have lost count of the number of times we have seen people post that they have accidentally broken their lens element on a lens worth hundreds of dollars when out on a photography session because then never used a UV filter that costs a fraction of what their lens costs.
The Gobe UV Filter Range
In our opinion, another reason that Gobe filters are becoming so popular so quickly is that they offer their filter range in all of the most common filter thread sizes as well as some of the less popular sizes too. This means that no matter what your lens of choice is there is a decent chance that you will be able to find a Gobe UV filter to fit it. At the time of writing their UV filter range is available in the following thread sizes:-
With the Gobe filter range, you have three options of the vast majority of their filters. They are the one, two, and three peak filters and with one peak being their budget filter, two peaks being their middle of the road filter and three peaks being their premium filter. In our opinion, if you are on a tight budget then you should pick up the one peak filter but you should definitely check out the three peak filter as they aren’t that expensive while they also offer excellent functionality.
We feel that the two peak filters are a waste of time as the three peak filters are not much more expensive than them but they outperform them massively. This is due to the Gobe three peak filters coming with the higher possible quality German Schott glass that is extremely robust and can take a ton of punishment before showing any signs of damage.
In our opinion, investing in a Gobe UV filter for your lens of choice on your Nikon d3300 is an excellent investment and addition to your filter kit. As one of the images above show, a UV filter that costs a fraction of the cost of your lens is well worth the investment as they can help save your lens during any accidents.
The Tiffen UV Filter Range
This particular UV filter from the Tiffen range is the very low price but due to this, you have to be aware that it does not offer as much protection as the more expensive filters. That said, its low price has lead to the filter becoming very popular and earning itself an excellent reputation amongst both the photography and videography communities. On top of this, we also have our own in-depth review of the Tiffen UV range that we posted a while back and think may be helpful to some of our readers.
Again, the Tiffen filter range are available in a large number of thread sizes meaning that you should be able to find a thread size that will fit your lens of choice without issue. Additionally, for its low price, the filter has some solid threads on it that will help prevent cross threading on your lens and further help to prevent any damage from occurring.
All in all, we would recommend any of the three Gobe filters over the Tiffen one but if for some reason you are unable to get your hands on the Gobe range or if you are on a very tight budget and are unable to get your hands on the extra couple of dollars for the Gobe alternative.
