In this article, we will be taking a look at a number of replacement batteries for canon g7x cameras currently available on the market. With the G7X being such a popular vlogging camera with a large user base, it is no surprise that we always see people asking for advice on what spare batteries they should be using with it.
As all versions of the Canon G7X use the Canon NB-13L battery model, you can, in theory, use any third-party battery that is build to that standard. We have researched the various batteries currently available on the market and settled on five that we think are worth the time and money of our readers.
All of these third-party batteries cheaper, up to a quarter cheaper in some cases than the official Canon replacements while offers a very similar product. In some cases, these third-party batteries are actually able to improve the battery life for Canon G7X cameras while also charging up quicker.
The Wasabi Power Battery Pack and Charger for Canon NB-13L
The image to the right shows a close-up of what the battery actually looks like. As you can see, it has a high build quality that is clean and smooth. It displays all of the relevant information on its case so you are able to track what battery is for what camera you own.
Two NB-13L compatible batteries are included in the pack allowing you to extend the uptime of your G7X to be able to last you a full day. The cells in the Wasabi Power batteries are Japanese 3.6v, 1250 mAh cells that can last for up to eight hours each depending on what you are doing with your camera.
The battery charger for Canon G7X batteries that is included within the pack is able to rapidly charge the batteries from empty to full in as little as only three hours. The charger has a fold out plug suitable for all power outlets in the United States of America while also having a European outlet plug adaptor. Additionally, a car charging adapter is also included to allow you to charge your batteries while on your travels.
In addition to the Canon G7X, the batteries are also fully compatible with the Canon G9, and the Canon SX720 HS. This may make your photography life a little easier if you also own either of these cameras.
The Powerextra Replacement Canon NB-13L Battery Pack and Charger
If you are looking for a spare battery for your Canon Powershot G7X then these could be the choice for you. They are based around a 3.7v 1600 mAh 5.92Wh cell offering a high-quality and professional substitute for the official Canon NB-13L range.
The image to the right shows a close up of the Powerextra NB-13L. As you can see, it has a high build with a smooth finishing similar to the Wasabi Power battery above. Again, all of the relivant infomation for the battery is also displayed on its casing.
The pack contains two batteries that are each able to power your G7X for up to eight hours each for photographs and up to three hours each for video recording. That said, this will change slightly depending on the settings of your camera during use. These batteries have been tried and tested for stability and efficiency levels and have been shown to be just as effective as the Canon NB-13L battery.
The charger included in the battery pack is able to fully charge each battery from empty in as little as four hours. The battery charger is based around United States power outlets but does come with a car charging adaptor included.
These batteries are also compatible with the Canon G5X, Canon G9X, Canon SX620, Canon SX720m, and Canon SX730 too.
The Fully Decoded OAproda NB-13L Battery Pack and Charger
Again, the OAproda NB-13L Battery Pack comes with two spare batteries included in your purchase. These batteries have been tested and the work just as well as the original Canon NB-13L battery without presenting any issues. They have been fully decoded too meaning that you will not get a warning message on your Canon camera about using a third-party battery and you are also able to see your battery power level on your LCD screen.
Again, you can expect a single fully charged OAproda NB-13L Battery to be able to power your Canon G7X for between three and eight hours depending on what you are using the camera for and your various camera settings.
The battery charger included in the kit is a micro USB charger and is only 0.71 inches thick. It is quick to charge the batteries from empty to full taking around three hours. The small but highly efficient design of the charger makes it ideal for anyone who is traveling with their G7X.
The micro USB charger also helps you keep your batteries fully charged no matter what country you are in as USB to local power outlets are very cheap and you can also use a power bank (Click here to check for product prices and availability) to further increase the duration you are able to stay out on location and use your G7X.
The UltraPro Pack Of NB-13L Batteries with Charger
Next up we will be taking a look at one of the new kids on the block when it comes to Canon G7X battery charger packs, the UltraPro NB-13L (Click here to check for product prices and availability). Although the UltraPro NB-13L is a high-quality product that contains two spare batteries, a charger, and a few other accessories, we feel that it is simply overshadowed by the other three products above.
That said, the UltraPro NB-13L batteries are fully compatible with your Canon G7X and again will keep it running for between three and eight hours depending on what you are actually using your camera for. That said, they have not been tested by the photography community as much or as extensively as the three recommendations above so time will tell if these are able to hold up to the high standards set by their competing batteries.
The included UltraPro battery charger comes with both AC and DC power adapters, a car adaptor, an output adaptor for mainland Europe as well as coming with United States pins attached. It is able to fully charge its batteries from empty in around three hours as standard.
The UltraPro NB-13L battery pack also includes some additional accessories. These include a mini travel tripod, a camera cleaning kit, and a screen protector.
The E-TS Canon NB-13L Battery Replacement Packs and Battery Charger
The final product that we will be covering on our list is also the newest third-party battery pack for the Canon G7X that we could find, the E-TS NB-13L (Click here to check for product prices and availability). It is so new to the market in fact that we were unable to find any real feedback on it from the photography community. The only reason that we are including it on our list is due to the reputation of other E-TS products but we would still recommend that you choose either of the first three battery packs over this one for your Canon G7X.
As with the other products on this list, the E-TS NB-13L comes with two batteries included and again, the amount of time they can power your camera for will depending upon what you are using it for at any given time. That said, the expected powering times fall above the three-hour point minimum and keep it in line with the other chargers on our list.
The E-TS charger is a micro USB charging system so shares the same benefits that we explained earlier when using these types of chargers of being able to use them in any country without needing the local outlet adaptor. We were unable to find any reports or suggestions of how quickly the charger should be able to charge one of the batteries from empty to full but we would expect it to be around the three-hour mark to keep it within a competitive range.
Should You Use The Official Canon NB-13L Battery Or A Third-Party Replacement
battery over the official Canon ones. Essentially what they are getting at in the video is the warning message that is displayed to you when you power the camera on with a third-party battery in it as shown in the image to the right.
This is to make you aware that you are not using an official battery that has been guaranteed by Canon and in all honesty, we can see why they do this. While researching this article we were able to find a number of NB-13L style batteries that would power your Canon G7X but they had a bad reputation within the photography community for a number of reasons. This message is just Canon trying to protect you from using a third-party battery.
The advantage of using a third-party battery is that they work out at around one-third of the cost of the official Canon NB-13L. Provided you stick with the first three batteries on our list you should have no problems and if you get a decoded third-party battery (Click here to check for product prices and availability) the warning message above should not display. Additionally, a decoded third-party battery will also display the remaining power of the battery on your cameras LCD screen, unlike other non-decoded third-party batteries.
Many of the reputable, high-quality batteries that work with the Canon G7X (Click here to check for product prices and availability) currently available on the market are on par or slightly better than the official Canon battery while also being much cheaper and easier to get a hold of. They are able to keep you camera powered just as long, if not longer than the official battery while also being able to go from totally empty to fully charged either just as quick, if not quicker.
All in all, only you are able to decide the route that you want to take. There will always be a small risk when using a third-party camera battery and sometimes even the official battery for a product may cause issues anyway.
