The Best Lens For Night Photography For Nikon D90 Cameras!

We constantly see a steady stream of people asking what the best lens for night photography for a Nikon d90 camera is so we decided to publish this article in an attempt to help any of our readers who have this same question. While working our way through our short list of lenses we decided to feature two different products rather than one.

Additionally, both of the lenses that we decided to feature are within the usual budget range of our readers. That said, if you are looking for a high-end, expensive lens then we would highly recommend that you check out the Nikon 14-24mm lens (Click here to check for product prices and availability) as it is probably the, or one of the best lenses for night photography on the market right now but it is very expensive. For the rest of our article, we will be focusing on more budget-friendly lenses that are within the budgets of most of our readers.

The Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC

As far as we are concerned the best lens for night photography when using a Nikon d90 camera is the Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC (Click here to check for product prices and availability). We feel that it is actually a tad under price considering the amount of performance that it offers you, its build quality, as well as its functionality. All in all, it really is a great lens and it has proven to be very popular within the photography community.

The massive fan base of the lens has resulted in a large number of reviews (click here to read some of them) from people being published online. If you have a few minutes spare, we would highly recommend you read some of the ones that we have linked as they have been specifically chosen due to them being left by people using the Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 for night photography.

The design of the lens is great and allows you to easily operate it within a range of different situations and conditions. One thing that we would like to stress is that the manual focus ring is easy to rotate in both cold and or wet conditions allowing you to easily tweak your image as required. Although we touched on its build quality earlier, we would also like to mention that the mount on the lens will attach directly to the lens mount on your Nikon d90 camera body without you needing to purchase a lens converter.

As you may have guessed, the performance of the lens is excellent in low light conditions allowing you to capture a great clean and crisp image quality when out taking pictures at night. The fixed focal length of 14mm offers a great wide angle lens that is perfect for capturing any epic night time landscape photographs with your d90.

If you are looking to pick up a very cost effective little lens with excellent performance for your d90 to help improve your night photography then you should definitely check out the Rokinon 14mm f/2.8. It is perfect for when there just isn’t enough light for other lenses to perform and it also offers some excellent day time image quality too.

The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G ED

Depending on what you are wanting to get done while out and about at night, some may consider the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G ED (Click here to check for product prices and availability) to be a great candidate for the title of the best lens for night photography for a Nikon d90. The fixed focal length on the lens makes it ideal if you are planning to try and capture portraits during the night rather than landscapes and its performance and functionality are both great for its price.

The photograph below offers a nice example of the low light performance of the lens as well as how well it can perform when taking pictures in varied lighting conditions. As it is a prime lens is has no zoom capability at all but the manual focus ring on the lens is excellent allowing you to quickly and easily focus the lens as required even in low light conditions.

Although personally, we would take the Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 over the Nikon 35mm due to preferring landscape night photography and it having a better focal length for that but the Nikon 35mm can still be a very solid choice if you are planning to have someone in the frame as your foreground subject.
