In this article, we will be taking a look at what we feel are the best gimbals for mountain biking currently available on the market today. Over the last five to ten years the gimbal market has come on leaps and bounds allowing for tons of functionality to be offered in a much smaller package with a much lower price tag.
This has resulted in some excellent products being available today and we have decided to publish this article to help any of our readers who are mountain bikers and make be looking to pick a gimbal up to help record their adventures on their action camera.
The Evo SS Gimbal Chest Mount
Evo gimbals are well known due to their excellent battery life, stabilization, ease of use, and robustness making them the ideal chest mounted gimbal or chest mounted GoPro mount for mountain bikers. The SS gimbal is based around the standard three-axis system commonly used by the smaller gimbal products offering excellent performance in a small size and at a lightweight.
It is evident that Evo has put the time and effort in during the design stages of their wearable gimbal range as it is very easy to use, even if you have little to no technical experience. Its plug and play design allow you to use it right out of the box although there are a number of customizable features for the more advanced user.
The video below is a short recording of some test footage taken using the Evo SS Gimbal to stabilize a GoPro action camera. As you can see, the footage is very smooth even when going over some very rough routes earning the Evo SS the title of best GoPro gimbal for mountain biking in our opinion.
Unlike many other wearable gimbals, the Evo SS Gimbal comes with four 18350 Li-Ion Batteries included as standard that will power it for up to five hours from a full charge. On top of this, additional 18350 Li-Ion Batteries are easy to source (Click here to check for product prices and availability) allowing you to take multiple sets out when riding so you can hot swap them when required to increase your recording time.
The Evo SS Gimbal is fully water resistant meaning rain, snow, and water features on your ride should not be able to cause any damage to your gimbal while out riding. That said, we would like to point out that is it water resistant, not waterproof and we would not recommend that you fully submerge the gimbal in water as it may cause irreparable damage.
All in all, we feel that the Evo SS Gimbal is the best wearable gimbal currently available on the market right now and is the ideal product to use when recording footage of your mountain biking adventures. It will offer you clean, smooth footage without the need to break the bank and its ease of use mean that anyone should be able to use it without issue.
The FeiyuTech WG2 Chestmount Gimbal
As you would expect, the gimbal system is ready to use out of the box and has a very easy to use system meaning anyone should be able to quickly get to grips with it after taking it out the box. All you need to do is mount your action camera of choice, attach it to a high-quality chest harness (Click here to check for product prices and availability) and then go off for your ride.
Again, the battery life of the Feiyu Tech WG2 is excellent offering you hours of use with your gimbal while out riding without the need to either change or charge your batteries allowing you to ride for up to five hours at a time without interruption. The FeiyuTech WG2 is also compatible with the Feiyu app allowing you to quickly and easily tweak some settings while out on your mountain bike ride to ensure that your footage is the best it possibly can be.
The test footage below is a good example of the type of footage that you can expect when using a GoPro or any other action camera with your FeiyuTech WG2 while out riding.
